  1. ASCII (American Standard Code for Information Interchange) is a character encoding standard developed in the early 1960s to enable consistent representation of text across different computer systems. It uses 7 bits to represent 128 unique characters (0–127), including:

    • 95 printable characters: letters (A–Z, a–z), digits (0–9), punctuation, and symbols.

    • 33 control characters: non-printable codes for formatting and device control (e.g., NUL, LF, CR).

Modern systems often store ASCII in 8-bit bytes with the high bit set to 0, and the first 128 Unicode code points are identical to ASCII for backward compatibility.

    Structure of ASCII:

    • Control Characters (0–31, 127): Manage text flow and device actions (e.g., LF for line feed, CR for carriage return, DEL for delete).

    • Printable Characters (32–126): Visible symbols, letters, and numbers.

    • Extended ASCII (128–255): Adds accented letters, extra symbols, and graphical characters. This extension varies by implementation and is not standardized.
